PRS Collection Series 2014 #133 McCarty 408 - Tiger Eye Smoked Burst
One of 24: The PRS McCarty 408 in Tiger Eye Smoked Burst
This PRS Collection Series 2014 McCarty 408 is an incredibly rare find, one of only twenty-four ever built worldwide and a true unicorn of the guitar world. The neck is Pernambuco, a wood PRS no longer offers as an option, which makes this guitar as endangered as its namesake tiger. It adds tons of tone and feel, and it’s paired with an ebony fingerboard and the Pattern neck carve. The body is ribbon mahogany topped with curly maple, finished in Tiger Eye Smoked Burst. This is the best quality guitar manufacturing PRS can offer.
Mammoth Ivory Details
The details are what make this one a collector’s piece. The ebony headstock veneer carries a Mammoth Ivory museum eagle, and the ebony fingerboard has Mammoth Ivory museum bird inlays and matching ivory side dots. Maple, Paua heart, and maple purfling frame the headstock, and an ebony truss rod cover finishes it off.
Tone and Feel
Two 408 Narrow-Field pickups are controlled by a volume, a tone, and a 3-way toggle, keeping the control layout simple and the tone focused. Gold and nickel hardware, a PRS wrap-around bridge, and Phase III locking tuners with ivoroid pegs round it out. It weighs a comfortable 7lbs 2oz and comes home in its Collection case.
